Back in September I presented our church annual theme of “Serving our City,” and on that day we invited the church family to join together in giving $20,000 toward remodeling our youth room into a First Responders Lounge. On October 1st we began collecting that offering, and were thrilled with the full commitment of the church family to give the needed $20,000. What we didn’t anticipate was the response of many community organizations that would hear about what we were doing and offer to partner with us in it. Those partnerships totaled another $20,000 in goods, services and donations! It also means that the end product of the last six months of work far exceeds our original plans. The room is fantastic in every way!
This Sunday, March 18th, we are inviting the Bethany family to come see what has been done. An Open House will take place after church on Sunday, giving those who have supported this project an opportunity to see firsthand what their support has accomplished. Later in the week, on Wednesday, March 21st, we will have a Grand Opening ceremony at 3pm. This event will include representatives from our community partners, a few words from Sam Skillern of Salem Leadership Foundation, and a ribbon cutting and dedicatory prayer. We also want to invite any of our church family and neighborhood friends to join us in this great day of celebration.
Thanks goes out to the many Bethany members who have given sacrificially to this project. Special thanks to Pastor Jarren, Ruby House, and the students of Crosswalk who have done so much of the work on this project. We also want to thank the following community partners who have given goods, services and funding toward this project:
Salem Leadership Foundation
Home Depot Foundation
Falck Northwest Ambulance Services
Salem Police Department
Fast Signs of Salem
We’ve already been getting lots of great feedback from the ambulance workers who have had opportunity to use the lounge. Here are some of their comments:
