More than 60 people gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ at the public launch of Bethany Iglesia Bautista Church in Salem, Oregon on Sunday, April 16. This launch is the result of the multi ethnic vision of Pastor Tim Baker and the leadership team of Bethany Baptist, who are committed to fulfilling the mission of Christ to reach every nation with the Gospel – and to see various people groups come together to worship Christ as “one body.”
Several young families from the community came as a result of continual efforts to connect with unchurched Spanish speakers in south Salem. Members of the core launch team have been reaching out by providing coffee at a local laundromat, visiting people in neighborhoods, and offering counseling services. More connections are planned for the summer as the church builds toward a grand opening in September.
Prior to the public launch, Bethany Iglesia Bautista Church held three “preview” services that allowed the core team to develop the systems necessary to open a new church. During that time, the core team grew from 11 adults to more than 25. Most of this growth was due to a common desire to offer the hope of Christ to people who need a personal relationship with God.
Please pray for this brand new “baby” church as it begins the hard work of leading people to Jesus, discipling them, and helping them form a new community of believers that reflect the holiness and grace of God.
